A team of scientists from the National University of Singapore (NUS) has successfully identified the urinary biomarkers of an emerging subclass of synthetic cannabinoids, called OXIZID, to monitor potential abuse. OXIZIDs were the new synthetic cannabinoids identified in Singapore in 2021.

Last year, Singapore discarded 817,000 tonnes of food, a 23 per cent increase from the year before. The total amount of waste generated has also risen by 18 percent in the same period to hit 6,944,000 tonnes. With Singapore's only landfill fast filling up, two green entrepreneurs from NUS have made it their mission to divert as much as possible by reducing wastage and promoting the practice of upcycling.

X-ray imaging is widely used in areas such as healthcare and forensic science, but existing X-ray machines are unable to capture curved three-dimensional (3D) objects at high resolution, and they are also relatively expensive. Now, an international team of researchers led by chemists from the National University of Singapore (NUS) has demonstrated a potential solution to overcome these limitations by using nanocrystals that can trap X-rays.
