The Minister of Higher Education and Training, Mrs GNM Pandor, says:
"Whilst the 2019/20 Annual Performance Plan that I am presenting seeks to consolidate the five-year goals we set ourselves in the 2014 Medium-Term Strategic Framework (MTSF), it also looks beyond 2019/20. There is no dilution of our commitment to realise the vision espoused in the policy intents of the White Paper for Post-School Education and Training, 2013 (hereafter referred to as “the White Paper”). Our focus is, and remains, to ensure that the country achieves “A skilled and capable workforce to support an inclusive growth path” in a fair, equitable, non-racial, non-sexist and democratic manner."

STATS SA: More than half of youth have no money to pay for their tuition

Statistics South Africa (STATS SA) reported that "more than half (or 51%) of youth aged 18–24 claimed that they did not have the financial means to pay for their tuition. Furthermore, 18% of those aged 18–24 who were not attending educational institutions indicated that their poor academic performance prevented them from participating. This is according to the “Higher Education and Skills in South Africa” report released by Statistics South Africa."
